Tru’s Guide to Finding the Best Neighborhoods in Scottsdale

Are you thinking about a move to the beautiful city of Scottsdale? This architecturally diverse suburb of Phoenix has a lot to offer. It’s been dubbed the “most livable city in the nation” so finding a home there is just a matter of deciding what you’re looking for to suit your lifestyle. If this interests you, keep reading to find out more about the best neighborhoods in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale, itself, is a very large municipality shaped almost like a bowling alley, long and narrow. It lies just east of Phoenix, north of Tempe and south of Carefree. This lends itself to the many “personalities” this great city has to offer.

South Scottsdale Neighborhoods

South Scottsdale is the oldest and most established area, with homes there built in the late 40’s and early 50’s, 60’s. This is a great place to find a unique, mid-century modern home with close proximity to ASU, Old Town, freeways, the airport, and quick commutes to downtown. The pricing in this area is still somewhat affordable with plenty of redevelopment opportunity.

Central Scottsdale Neighborhoods

Moving north, central Scottsdale was primarily built in the 70’s and 80’s and is home to most of our snow-bird residents. The great thing about this area is the spacious homes coupled with a network of paved path and green belt spaces. Living here makes it easy to take in a relaxing walk or bike ride through the beautifully landscaped community. Central Scottsdale is home to McCormick Ranch and Scottsdale Ranch, two of the earliest and largest master planned communities in the city. The pricing is still affordable in these well-developed neighborhoods. The schools in Central Scottsdale are excellent, most with A+ ranking, making this a great home to families.

North Scottsdale Neighborhoods

As you head north you enter a more recently developed area nestled at the foot of the majestic McDowell Mountains. This area was developed in the 80’s and 90’s. Greater space and larger lots are located north of the 101 freeway. North Scottsdale features a wide array of beautiful custom homes if you are looking to have a little more room to live. The city prohibits street lamps in these neighborhoods so you’ll be sharing the beautiful night skies with some of the desert wildlife that inhabited the area before it was developed.
