In real estate, it’s important that you don’t get yourself bogged down on just a couple buyers or sellers. It’s especially important for new agents. They tend to get locked down on their first clients and put off critical list building activities that are vital to their continued success. My experience tells me that it’s very commonplace for inexperienced real estate agents with their first listing to forego prospecting.
A new Realtor is typically excited to get started. They put great energy in ramping up their contacts, setting up meetings, and making phone calls. If they ascribe to my time blocking method (link back to blog here) and keep to it, they will ultimately find the success they seek.
I call this focus.
It’s the act of being balanced in your efforts to be sure that you are doing all the tasks that ultimately grow your business. Successful, experienced real estate agents execute a blend of marketing, client service, prospecting, and accelerated learning. I feel that your focus can be fed by starting your day out with meditation, a brisk workout, light reading or perhaps a podcast. What you do should be the foundation for your business activities that day. These activities help you to focus and generate momentum for what you are looking to accomplish as a real estate professional.
An experienced agent with focus can readily handle a healthy group of listing by staying properly organized while delegating certain tasks as appropriate. Their job is to make sure that everything is coming together on time and correctly. The time blocking method is as appropriate to them as it is to a newer agent with the important caveat that they also continue to learn and that they never abandon the building of their daily foundation. Whereas an experienced agent may have more listings and therefore more demands on their time, they still must be filling their pipeline with future clients.
